Staying Positive Amidst The Chaos

In times of chaos, whether it’s personal challenges, your career not growing the way you’d like, or it feels as if everything is against you, maintaining a positive mindset can be a powerful tool for resilience and well-being. While it’s natural to feel overwhelmed or negative during crazy times, there are strategies you can implement to create a positive outlook and navigate through the chaos with greater ease. I know that when everything is falling apart from each direction, I remind myself to do these steps to help me stay focused and positive.

Practice Gratitude: Amidst chaos, it’s easy to focus on what’s going wrong and overlook the things we can be grateful for. Practicing gratitude involves consciously acknowledging and appreciating the positives in your life, no matter how small they may seem. Start a gratitude journal where you write down three things you’re grateful for each day. This simple practice can shift your focus away from negativity and towards the abundance in your life.

I started by writing down my affirmations every morning. Reminding myself that I am lucky to wake up, to be able to workout, listen to my podcasts and spend time with myself and loved ones.

Limit Exposure to Negative News: Constant exposure to negative news can fuel feelings of anxiety and despair. While it’s important to stay informed, it’s equally crucial to set boundaries on how much news you consume. Consider designating specific times of the day to catch up on current events, and avoid consuming news right before bed or first thing in the morning. Additionally, be mindful of the sources you’re getting your news from and prioritize reputable sources that provide balanced reporting.

I stay off of social media until I get into the office. So my mornings are filled more with mindfulness instead of what is going on around me. I started to feel overwhelmed when I scroll through instagram and see that everyone is doing “better” than I am. Just take an hour to yourself in the morning before allowing others to control your day and how you feel.

Focus on What You Can Control: Chaos often brings a sense of powerlessness, but dwelling on things beyond your control only adds to your stress. Instead, focus your energy on what you can control – your thoughts, actions, and reactions. Break down overwhelming situations into smaller, manageable tasks, and take proactive steps towards addressing them. By focusing on what you can influence, you’ll regain a sense of agency and empower yourself to navigate through the chaos more effectively.

This is one that took me a while to understand. I would get so upset about what happened to me because of someone else’s doing. You can’t control the actions of others or your environment. What you can do is set your focus on the things you can control. Your health, happiness and personal growth.

Cultivate Mindfulness: Mindfulness involves being fully present in the moment without judgment. In chaotic times, practicing mindfulness can help ground you and bring a sense of calm amidst the storm. Incorporate mindfulness practices such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, or mindful walking into your daily routine. These practices can help quiet the mind, reduce stress, and increase resilience in the face of adversity.

When in the midst of a chaotic time, I take myself to a spot in nature. I love being by the water. So when I need time to reset my mind, I go down to the pier or the beach. I usually like to close my eyes and hear everything around me, grounding me in the present.

Seek Support: You don’t have to navigate through chaos alone. Reach out to friends, family members, or a mentors. Sharing your thoughts and feelings with others can provide comfort and perspective, reminding you that you’re not alone in your struggles. Surround yourself with positive and supportive individuals who uplift you and remind you of your strength and resilience.

Staying positive amidst chaos is not about denying the reality of challenging circumstances; rather, it’s about adopting a mindset that empowers you to navigate through difficulties with resilience and grace. By practicing gratitude, limiting exposure to negative news, focusing on what you can control, cultivating mindfulness, and seeking support, you can foster a positive outlook even in the midst of chaos. Remember, you have the inner strength and resources to weather any storm that comes your way.
