✨ What the Heck is D.I.S.C? and Why It’s Changing How I Work (and Live)

You ever meet someone and just click instantly? Like the conversation flows, the energy feels easy, and you just get each other.

And then there are those moments when you’re talking to a client, co-worker, or even someone you love and think, “Why are we not on the same page right now?”

Same… And it got me thinking…

What if instead of assuming someone’s being difficult, we got curious?
What if we learned how they communicate, why they make decisions the way they do, and how to meet them where they are?

That’s where the D.I.S.C personality tool came in and kind of changed everything to me! In real estate, and honestly… in life.

So What The Heck is D.I.S.C?

D.I.S.C is a personality and communication style assessment. It helps explain how we naturally interact, make decisions, and handle situations. It’s not about putting you in a box…. it’s about understanding your strengths and how you relate to others.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • D = Dominance – Results-driven, assertive, direct. “Let’s make it happen.”
  • I = Influence – Social, outgoing, persuasive. “Let’s make it fun!”
  • S = Steadiness – Loyal, calm, consistent. “Let’s make sure everyone’s okay.”
  • C = Conscientiousness – Detail-focused, careful, analytical. “Let’s get it right.”

We’ve all got a little mix of these in us, but usually one or two lead the charge. Like your inner hype squad or your tiny internal project manager. The more you understand your blend, the easier it gets to stop taking things personally, communicate clearly, and maybe even avoid that awkward “why are you like this?” moment with your boss, your partner, or your real estate agent (hi 👋).

I’m an I.S. – Influence + Steadiness (aka. Social Butterfly 🙂

AKA: a “Supportive Networker”

& If you’ve worked with me, hung out with me, or even DM’d me once… this probably won’t surprise you. I am one of the biggest lover and supporter of others!

I’m someone who:

  • Connects deeply with people and builds trust fast
  • Loves encouraging others and making them feel seen
  • Wants everything to feel like a vibe (especially open houses)
  • Craves genuine connection more than quick wins

But I’m also:

  • Sensitive to energy shifts
  • Someone who avoids conflict (working on it!)
  • Prone to overthinking decisions because I care so much
  • Also, HUGE FEAR OF FOMO

What’s wild (and honestly kind of beautiful) is how different we all are. A High D might be bold and straight to the point, while a High C thrives on the details and needs time to process. None of them are better or worse. Just different. And when we stop expecting people to think, feel, or move like we do, everything flows better- relationships, business, life.

How I Use D.I.S.C in Real Estate

Communicating with Clients

Not everyone processes information like I do. Some people need a warm, slow-paced conversation. Others want bullet points and no fluff. When I understand someone’s D.I.S.C type (or can make a solid guess), I can show up the way they need — not just how I naturally would.

  • High D? They want fast answers, clear timelines, and no sugar-coating.
  • High I? They want excitement, connection, and to visualize what life will feel like.
  • High S? They need time, patience, reassurance, and stability.
  • High C? They want the data, the documents, the proof — and time to review it all.

Knowing this helps me guide each client through the home process in a way that feels supportive, not stressful.

D.I.S.C Outside of Work — Yes, Even in Friendships & Love

This isn’t just business. Understanding how different personalities interact has helped me:

  • Avoid misunderstandings in friendships
  • Set better boundaries in relationships
  • Offer better support to people I love
  • Stop expecting everyone to process things the way I do

Now I can appreciate that my High C friend needs time to think before making a decision. Or that a High D family member isn’t being rude — they just get straight to the point.

Why You Should Know Your D.I.S.C Type (Even If You’re Not in Real Estate)

We’re all human. We’re all navigating relationships, decisions, goals, and communication. Knowing your D.I.S.C type is like having a user manual for your personality — and a cheat sheet for understanding the people around you!!

It’s helped me:

  • Feel more confident in my strengths
  • Recognize where I get stuck (like over-apologizing or people-pleasing)
  • Communicate more clearly, kindly, and effectively

The best place to take the test would be by Tony Robbins D.I.S.C. Test (Don’t forget to download results when done!)

🧡 Final Thought From Your I.S. Friend

Learning my D.I.S.C type didn’t give me all the answers, but it helped me finally understand myself and others more authentically.
Authenticity that I strive for in client relationships… why I love connecting people… and why I sometimes need to take a breath and say, “No, thank you” instead of “Sure, I can do that too!”

If you want to learn more about your own type, let’s chat. I’ll bring the iced latte, you bring your questions. This stuff is so good for building confidence, peace, and better relationships. In business and in life.

Let’s figure out who you are and how you thrive.
(And maybe find your dream home while we’re at it. 😉)

xoxo,

Alli 🌙
